Wi-Fiを540Mbps(megabits per second/現在の光ファイバー・ケーブル・ネットワーク100Mbpsより約5.4倍/802.11の最高速54Mbpsより10倍)の通信スピードを実現することを目的に開発している技術で、IEEE(the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers,Inc/IE3/I triple E/電気通信技術者協会/電気電子学会)から2006年3月、Draft Ver1.0が策定された、高速化の技術としては「MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output)」を使用し、複数のアンテナで送受信を行うことで高速化と安定化を実現する無線LAN規格です。
