冷凍「方舟」プロジェクト

国連の調査機関が、30年以内に哺乳動物類の1,130の種(24%)および鳥類の1,183の種(12%)が絶滅すると予想したことから、イギリスの「Natural History Museum(自然史博物館)」「the Zoological Society of London(ロンドン動物園)」「Institute of Genetics at the University of Nottingham(ノッティンガム大学遺伝学研究所)」が共同で2004年7月27日に、ダーウィン・センター(Darwin Centre)のHeritage Lottery Fundから500万 の資金を受けて開始したと報告した、すべての種類の種からDNAサンプルを集めて、摂氏マイナスの80度にそれらを凍らせ保存する現在版ノアの方舟として、世界初のDNA銀行を作るプロジェクトの名称。詳細情報はURL(http://www.nhm.ac.uk/news/items/nhl_grant230704.html)または、URL(http://www.nhm.ac.uk/news/items/frozen_ark270704.html)または、Frozen ArkのスライドショーがあるURL(http://www.nhm.ac.uk/news/features/ark_slideshow.html)で知ることができる。
