ニューヨーク在住のジョン・ブロックマン(John Brockman)が企画したイベントの名称。世界中のインターネット・ユーザーを始め、新聞、雑誌、電子メディアに情報の掲載を依頼し、寄稿された原稿は1999年1月4日にPublication on EDGEのURL(http://eu-datagrid.web.cern.ch/eu-datagrid/)で公開された。米国の雑誌TIMEが西暦2000年を迎えるにあたって、TIME 100を開始し、朝日新聞でも日曜版で、20世紀の偉人ということで、「100人の20世紀」というシリーズを展開し、単行本でも販売されている。また、Panasonic Hi-HOのカレンダー情報サービス「日めくりカレンダー」は、1999年10月に「20世紀の出来事」を追加した。詳細情報はURL(http://town.hi-ho.ne.jp/cale/)で知ることができる。今後このような20世紀の情報ページが増えることだろう。一気に情報を収集し、それらを再編集した総合ページもインターネット上に登場することだろう。後は編集能力の競争といえる。これまで、このような文化事業を多く提供してきたIBMの情報に期待したい。また、ドイツのノーベル賞作家ギュンター・グラス(Guenter Grass)は、20世紀の100年間を1年ごとに、老若男女、右左、上流中流下層あらゆる層の人々が語る個人的エピソードを1編の短編小説で綴った100編の集合体にまとめた「私の20世紀(Mein Jahrhundert)」という本を出版している。また、20世紀初頭の世界(写真集)The World in the Early Twentieth Centuryも公開されている。詳細情報はURL(http://www.archives.nysed.gov/services/teachers/globalstudies/index.htm)で知ることができる。米国の発明家支援組織レメルソン MIT(Lemelson-MIT)は2002年1月22日に発表した、21世紀に重要な発明を発表した。詳細情報はURL(http://web.mit.edu/invent/n-pressreleases/n-press-02index.html)で知ることができる。また、2003年1月21日に、2002年11月に米国の大人1042人、10代400人を対象に行われた、発明に対する意識調査結果を発表した。詳細情報はURL(http://web.mit.edu/invent/n-pressreleases/n-press-03index.html)で知ることができる。商用宇宙旅行を提供しているSpace Adventures社は2006年10月26日に、2007年3月9日にロシアで打ち上げられるソユーズTMA-10でISS(the International Space Station/国際宇宙ステーション)に送りだす乗員として、世界初のWYSIWYGのワードプロセッサ「Bravo」を開発した元Microsoftの著名エンジニアであるチャールズ・シモニー博士(Charles Simonyi, Ph.D.,)を搭乗させると発表した。詳細情報はURL(http://www.spaceadventures.com/media/releases/2006-10/454)で知ることができる。
